In an effort to provide participants of all skill levels with a great hike experience, we've identified three different hike options. Please take a look at these hike descriptions before registering to hike, as you will be asked to identify your desired hike upon registering. If you change your mind the weekend of the hike, it's not a problem; we'd just like to get an idea of the number of participants in each area.
Appalachian Trail-Cedar Run-Whiteoak Canyon Hike
Approximately 13 miles - Estimated Time: 5-8 hours
This is a 13.3-mile circuit hike which covers portions of the Appalachian Trail and two scenic trails within Shenandoah National Park; Cedar Run and Whiteoak Canyon. There are 8 waterfalls along these two trails.
The Appalachian Trail is marked by white painted slashes/blazes on the trees. The Cedar Run-Whiteoak Canyon trails are marked by blue painted slashes/blazes on the trees.
Whiteoak Canyon Out-Back Hike
Approximately 4.8 miles one way/9.6 miles round trip
The Whiteoak Canyon trail is marked by blue painted slashes/blazes on the trees. This trail descends into a canyon and passes 6 waterfalls. If you do not want to hike the full 11-mile trail, we suggest this hike which is an out-back hike. You can turn around at any point, perhaps setting your sights on a particular set of falls as a goal.
Approximately 1.3-2.3 miles
The Limberlost Trail is marked by blue painted slashes/blazes on the trees and is a handicapped accessible gravel trail (stroller friendly). There is little elevation change on this trail.
Hikers can either drive to a parking area at the Limberlost Trail head or walk from the Skyland Resort Conference Hall to the Limberlost Trail. If walking to the Limberlost Trail head, please note that approximately .5 miles is on Whiteoak Canyon Trail, which is NOT handicap accessible.
